Established in 2005, Rare Earth Flutes was based out of Austin, TX. It was the launching pad for the educational program known as Sound Essentials .

Rare Earth Flutes featured a number of ocarinas, clay flutes, clay penny whistles, quenas, the mound flute, and other clay instruments.
